Key points

  • Canadian manufacturing remains under consideration.
  • Planned 2027 sales do not establish a local production date.
  • The existing South African project does not confirm Canadian arrangements.

Reported details

Chery’s Canadian plans extend beyond selling cars, but are not a factory commitment. IT Home’s October 25 report by Qingyuan cites an October 23 Bloomberg interview: options include using idle plant capacity and partners. Bloomberg’s public original summary and the full report carried by The Edge support that wording.

Executive vice president Guibing Zhang was interviewed at Chery’s Wuhu headquarters. The report separates planned sales in 2027 from manufacturing opportunities still being explored. The reviewed material identifies no contracted site, committed investment, production model or start date. Sales next year must not become factory production next year.

Localisation has a background, but countries are separate projects. Chery’s July official release records a July 3 ceremony for South Africa’s Rosslyn plant, with upgrading and production planned for mid-2027. It also describes combustion, hybrid and electric products in South Africa, not a confirmed Canadian model or powertrain plan.

Editorial interpretation

Editorial view: sales, aftersales coverage and local manufacturing are three different milestones for Canadian buyers. A production partnership might change supply, but currently cannot establish delivery speed, pricing or localisation levels. An agreement or concrete project parameters would be the next meaningful development, not another factory headline recycling this interview.

What it means

Canadian information is attributed to Bloomberg’s interview; IT Home and The Edge are checked parts of its publication chain, not three independent confirmations. The official historical South African image illustrates overseas manufacturing only.
