Key points

  • NIO details door-opening camera warnings across several models
  • Side-rear views and alerts support checks before exit; individual rollout dates were not given.
  • Editorial analysis: side-rear views can help occupants check approaching traffic, while split views accommodate exits on both sides. Neither the display nor the warning guarantees detection of every object. Occupants must still look directly at surrounding traffic and open doors only when safe. Owners should check their own model year and vehicle menu, rather than assume every year of a named model is supported.

Reported details

Phoenix Technology reported on October 28, in an article edited by Song Shumei, that Li Bin outlined NIO’s door-opening warning cameras. Unfastening a seat belt or preparing to open a door can bring up the corresponding side-rear view on the centre or rear control screen. Split views can show both sides when occupants on each side prepare to exit. Light and sound warnings accompany a detected door-opening collision risk.

The report lists coverage using Shenji NX9031 capabilities: the new ES8, ET9 and ES9, 2025 and 2026 ES6 and EC6 models, and ONVO’s 2026 L60, L80 and L90, among others. A switch is available under Settings—Safety—Door-opening warning camera. This relays the manufacturer’s description and coverage; the report gives neither a first OTA date and software version for every car nor independent performance measurements.
