XPENG YOYO wins Guangzhou L4 demonstration approval; early rides remain invitation-only
XPENG disclosed progress on October 26. Citywide demonstration eligibility does not mean every route is open; fares, fleet size and specific pickup points were not disclosed.

Key points
- XPENG says it recently obtained citywide Guangzhou L4 Robotaxi demonstration eligibility.
- Initial access continues through invitation codes, not immediate unrestricted booking.
- YOYO is based on GX; the permit does not give ordinary GX cars driverless-operation approval.
Reported details
XPENG announced on October 26 that YOYO had recently obtained Guangzhou’s intelligent-connected-vehicle demonstration-operation qualification, enabling L4 Robotaxi demonstrations citywide. The company did not specify the actual approval date. October 26 is therefore recorded as the announcement date, not automatically as the permit date.
Access is the immediate passenger limitation. Both Chinese and English announcements say early experience will continue to open gradually through invitation codes. Citywide eligibility does not establish service on every street, at every pickup point or at every hour. The materials also omit fare rules, fleet size and a complete bookable-area list.
XPENG describes YOYO as based on GX, using four in-house Turing AI chips and its second-generation VLA model. Guangzhou is intended to validate ordering, dispatch, pickup and exception handling, while the company plans to supply vehicles, software and AI solutions to partners. These are company technology and business statements, not our independent validation of reliability, costs or completed overseas deals, and do not imply equivalent approval for retail GX cars.
Editorial interpretation
Editorial view: invitation availability, bookable journeys and actual operating conditions matter more to passengers than a single computing figure. Industry assessment should follow service coverage, exception handling and sustained operating data. Demonstration approval is progress, but does not prove unrestricted commercial service or profitability.
