CLTC vs WLTP vs EPA: EV range explained

Read the label before comparing the number.

Range needs context.

CLTC, WLTC, WLTP and EPA use different procedures. There is no reliable universal percentage conversion. Use the rating for the exact market, battery and wheel size. Electric range uses battery energy only; combined hybrid range also includes fuel.

Can I convert CLTC to WLTP with a fixed percentage?

CLTC, WLTC, WLTP and EPA are different test cycles. Do not use a fixed conversion factor. Compare electric-only range separately from fuel-assisted combined range.

Decode the specifications.

kWh measures stored energy; kW measures power. Gross and usable battery capacity differ. Compare charging times over the same state-of-charge window. LFP or NMC chemistry alone is not a quality ranking. Driver-assistance hardware does not prove that functions are enabled locally; the driver remains responsible.

Make charging part of the shortlist.

Speed, temperature, elevation, passengers and luggage affect actual range. Plan a charging reserve rather than expecting the full laboratory figure.
