Key points
- AITO rejects fake airbag-recall texts: verify the sender before acting
- The company says the messages are not official service notices.
- Editorial analysis: the practical issue is authenticating the notice, not recognising a brand name in a text. Rather than following a suspicious message’s link or QR code to “customer service”, obtain contact details independently through a known official channel. This statement addresses the fraudulent recall described here; it does not establish that AITO has never had, or will never have, any recall, nor does it determine whether a particular vehicle is covered by another service action.
Reported details
IT Home’s Qincang reported on November 6 that AITO’s “AITO Truth Detective” account warned that scammers were using the AITO name in text messages alleging an airbag recall. Recipients were told to act through an attached website or QR code before a deadline, with threats of cancelled warranty service. AITO said the claimed airbag recall did not exist and these were not official notices. It advised checking doubtful service messages through its official 400 hotline, and preserving texts and chat records and contacting police if money had been lost.
